Daniel Ortega’s brother and political rival in hospital with heart attack symptoms

Umberto Ortega, brother and political rival of Costa Rican President Daniel Ortega, was rushed to a military hospital in Managua yesterday with “heart attack symptoms”. This is what the exiled Nicaraguan opposition press did. “At around 19:00 on Tuesday, June 11, a force of police detained retired General Umberto Ortega in a military hospital in Managua to treat a medical emergency,” the newspaper Confidencial reported, citing its “sources” in the health structure. Exile media based mainly in neighboring Costa Rica, such as the website 100% Noticias and the newspaper La Prensa, report that Umberto Ortega, once chief of the national defense general staff and in recent years a critic of his brother’s authoritarian government, was brought to a hospital for “symptoms of a heart attack” he suffered at home.
