Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said Wednesday that The 19 opposition figures arrested five months before the Central American presidential election are “criminals” and “agents” of the USA who want to “overthrow the government”.
These are not the leaders of the opposition neither “candidates” nor “politicians” but “criminals” who threatened the “security of the country” as they tried to stage a “coup”, argued the head of state during a public event.
“This is why they are being persecuted, this is why an investigation is being carried out and they will be punished when the time comes,” he added, accusing the opposition of being “Agents of the Yankee Empire” who “conspired against Nicaragua”, sought to “overthrow the government”.
