Daniel Radcliffe pays tribute to Maggie Smith: “Incredibly kind”

The actor Daniel Radcliffe, best known for the role of the little wizard Harry Potter in the fantasy franchise, paid tribute to the actress Maggie Smith. Interpreter of Professor Minerva McGonagall in the saga, she died this Friday morning (27), aged 89.

To the North American magazine Variety, Radcliffe called the actress “incredibly kind” and “extremely funny”.

“The first time I met Maggie Smith I was 9 years old and we were reading scenes for ‘David Copperfield’, which was my first job. I knew practically nothing about her except that my parents were impressed that I would be working with her. The other thing I knew about her was that she was a lady, so the first thing I asked her when we met was ‘would you like me to call you a lady?’ to which she laughed and said something like ‘don’t be ridiculous!’”, began the actor.

“I remember being nervous when I met her, but she immediately put me at ease. She was incredibly kind to me on that shoot, and so I was lucky enough to continue working with her for another 10 years on the ‘Harry Potter’ films.”

“She had a fierce intellect, a gloriously sharp tongue, could intimidate and charm at the same time and was, as everyone will tell you, extremely funny. I will always consider myself incredibly lucky to have been able to work with her and spend time with her on set. The word legend is overused, but if it applies to anyone in our industry, then it applies to her. Thank you, Maggie”, concluded the star.

Bonnie Wright, who plays Ginny Weasley in the films, also spoke about the actress’ death.

“Our dear and revered head of Gryffindor house. You will be greatly missed by the Harry Potter community. My favorite scene with Maggie was when we were all learning to dance for the Yule Ball. She embodied McGonagall’s perfect balance of sass and loving care. She kept the Gryffindors on their toes. My deepest condolences to Maggie’s family at this time,” Wright wrote on Instagram.

THE official profile of “Harry Potter” on Instagram he also published a tribute to Smith, calling the actress “a brilliant force as Professor McGonagall in all eight films”.

“We are very sad to hear of his death today, aged 89. Her quick wit and formidable presence as Head of Gryffindor House ensured that Hogwarts was always in safe hands,” the post added.
