The singer Daniela Mercury became involved in a controversy on social media after throw a bench that was on the stage during his show at Casacor Bahia 2024, in Salvador. The episode took place last Saturday (14).
Daniela picked up the object, which was next to her microphone, and threw it to the back of the stage. According to the singer, she had already asked for the bench to be removed to make room for her performance.
After the incident, Daniela Mercury spoke out on social media. On her Instagram profile, she published a text about the incident, titled “an open letter to my future friend, the Bank”.
“Dear Banquinho, look, it was nothing personal. I didn’t even know you until last night. I was really upset that my team didn’t take you out of there. The stage is my temple, man, my place of artistic expression. It was there that we reached an impasse, even without knowing each other: it was me or you. I had to start the show and you didn’t move… You didn’t dance, you didn’t sing, you didn’t retreat (as you should),” she wrote.
“I called an assistant, I called another, nobody moved. Dear little stool, you were a witness when I asked to get you out of there, right? I wasn’t answered because certainly stool is a masculine word. It doesn’t seem like it, but many people are resistant to receiving orders from a woman,” she added.
Daniela Mercury also revealed that she bought the bench to put in her living room in the text: “Every woman who asserts herself, frees us. I freed myself yesterday by removing you, little stool (nothing personal, I repeat!) from my stage. It wasn’t your fault, little stool. But you were preventing me from starting my performance as I had planned.”
“So, dear stool, because of your resistance (you are very strong), I decided to buy you and leave you in the center of my living room as a symbol of my empowerment and my freedom,” he concluded.
The act caused businesswoman Tati Mandelli, owner of the company that manufactured the bench – one of the event’s launches – to become outraged with the singer and publish a rant on social media, calling Daniela “trash”.
“I was awakened by the absolutely regrettable video of a Daniela Mercury show,” Tati said in a video posted on her Instagram profile. “At that show, she received one of our products that is on display at Casacor, a new product, a bar stool, and threw it like it was trash.”
“I would like to tell this lady who calls herself an artist that in fact the company Tidelli employs 700 people in the metropolitan region of Salvador. It makes a product that goes all over the world and that neither she nor anyone else can throw away as if it were trash, because the real trash is this singer who has no elegance or respect for people,” added the businesswoman.
So far, Daniela Mercury has not commented specifically on Mandelli’s speech.
