Aren’t you young to think about after volleyball?
«You don’t play forever, sooner or later you will stop».
Isn’t there a return to Calabria?
“Home is a far away place, I go back there for the holidays. I have lived in the North for many years. In the South people are more relaxed and carefree, in the North they are more frenetic. Not in Trento, where I am, where they are precise, but they also manage to enjoy it».
How did volleyball come into your life?
“I chose her. I did like two weeks of soccer when I was seven. My two brothers played volleyball in Rossano and my cousin also started playing minivolley. I went to see my brothers’ games. The leap in quality came when I went to Corigliano when I was fourteen. I didn’t play, but the training sessions were fundamental».
Other sports?
“I like soccer. I’m an Inter fan. I also really like tennis. After volleyball comes tennis. The favourite? Federer, I like technical players. When I watched matches with my father, I wondered how he managed to win without breaking a sweat».
She is also a technical player.
«Yes, certainly more technical than powerful, even if power is important in recent years. For me, balance is key. All teams aim to force the serve and have a more detached reception to put the opponent’s game in difficulty. If on the other side there is a technical player, however, things can change».

Goal for this summer?
«Olympic qualification for sure, but above all to find last year’s game again. Now the opponents don’t underestimate us, it’s different from last year in which we brought home two great results. The group was greatly renewed in 2022, young people who learned from the historic group of the Rio 2016 Olympic silver medal. De Giorgi renewed and helped us bring Italy to the top».
Not even the phenomenal generation won Olympic gold.
«The Olympics is The Competition. Everyone wants to at least be part of the 12 that go to the Olympics. Winning is very difficult, even more than the world championship».
Music?

Cinema, series?
«If I have free time, I spend it watching movies and TV series, when I’m not studying. I find it relaxing.”
In the kitchen?
«Pasta, a lot of pasta and then ice cream, actually ice cream first. I eat everything. I’m lucky not to have to give up anything, I’m far too thin».
Where did you feel at home?
«Castellana Grotte where I attended fourth and fifth high school and made many friends. And then Trent. I have many friends and teammates».
You left home very early: was it difficult?
“I was 15, 16 years old. Honestly, at the beginning I was a little afraid of changing cities and schools. From the first day of school my classmates have been wonderful. The teachers helped me a lot. I’ve always tried to attend class and study in my free time, but they’ve helped me manage it, for example by doing scheduled questions».
How little do we see volleyball on TV?
«We don’t see volleyball. Only when we won the world and European championships did we go on Rai Due, the semi-final and world matches».
