Economist Daniella Marques assumes, this Tuesday (5), the presidency of Caixa Econômica Federal, in an official ceremony at Palácio do Planalto. Marques’ name was approved by the Caixa Econômica Federal Eligibility Committee on Friday (1st), when the term of office was signed.

Marques will replace Pedro Guimarães, who resigned last Wednesday (29), after allegations of sexual harassment are being investigated by the Federal Public Ministry and the Public Ministry of Labor. In a letter released, the former president of the bank denied the allegations.

The economist until then held the position of special secretary for Productivity and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Economy for which she was nominated on February 2, 2022.

Marques has been a member of the federal government since 2019, when she was appointed head of the Special Advisory for Strategic Affairs of Minister Paulo Guedes.

She holds a degree in business administration from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ) and an MBA – postgraduate degree – in finance from the Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets (Ibmec).

According to the Ministry of Economy, she worked for 20 years in the financial market, in the area of independent management of investment funds. Marques was also a founding partner and director of investment funds.

The economics analyst at CNN Raquel Landim found that the new president should create a committee to investigate allegations of sexual harassment against her predecessor.

According to interlocutors heard, the crisis committee will be interdisciplinary, with experts from the legal, compliance, marketing, etc. The objective is to investigate the allegations and identify whether other bank executives covered up the alleged crimes.

It also has the function of isolating the crisis, preserving Caixa’s image and maintaining the bank’s programs such as Casa Verde Amarela, the payment of Auxílio Brasil, among others.
