32 years ago, Brazil was the scene of one of the most striking crimes in media history. The tragedy gained wide repercussion because the victim, Daniella Perez was a young actress on the rise on TV Globo and star of the soap opera “De Corpo e Alma”.
Daughter of author Glória Perez and wife of actor Raul Gazolla, she was the victim of a brutal crime, receiving 18 scissor stabs and no opportunity to react. The investigations revealed that those responsible were the actor Guilherme de Pádua, who starred with Daniella as her romantic partner in the soap opera, and his wife, Paula Thomaz .
The two were convicted of the murder. According to the accusation, the crime was motivated by envy and resentment, as the actor was persistently seeking more prominence for his character in the soap opera “De Corpo e Alma”, written by the victim’s mother.
Before being identified as responsible for the crime, however, William of Padua even offered his condolences Glória Perez and Raul Gazolla. The couple was incriminated after a witness recorded the license plate number of the vehicle used in the crime.
Hours later, Guilherme confessed to the crime. According to investigations, Pádua approached Daniella at the end of the recordings, forcing her to get into the car, which was driven by his wife to the place where the murder took place.
In 1997, Guilherme de Pádua was sentenced to 19 years in prison and Paula Nogueira Thomaz to 18 years and 6 months for the murder of the actress, classified as Qualified homicide for a base reason and with no chance of defense for the victim .
Pádua was released in October 1999, after serving 6 years and 9 months in prison. He married again in 2006, divorced in 2014 and married for the third time in 2017, the year in which he also began working as a pastor at the Lagoinha Baptist Church, in Belo Horizonte.
In 2023, Padua died after suffering a heart attack. The story was the subject of Max’s documentary “Brutal Pact – The Murder of Daniella Perez” .
