To encourage reading, the Danish government wants to abolish VAT in books, which is currently 25%, Culture Minister Jacob Engel-Smid said today. “The government proposes the budget bill to remove VAT in the books,” he said in an interview with the Ritzau agency. “We have to do everything to deal with this reading crisis, which, unfortunately, has been spreading in recent years,” the minister explained, stating that the abolition of VAT will cost the state of 330 million crowns (44.2 million euros) a year.
