On Dantedì, the day established in 2020 by the Council of Ministers to celebrate the seventh centenary of the death of Dante Alighieri, is presented, in this year so complicated, not only as an occasion to remember the father of the Italian language, but also for rekindle attention on the Poet who, often and willingly, school teaching offers children in an unworthy way, making the study of his works difficult, tiring and unnecessarily tangled. Along with the various operations carried out by schools and institutes, of course, the public service also appears, transmitting a series of initiatives aimed at honoring the anniversary.
It begins, on March 25, with Roberto Benigni reading the XXV Canto del Paradiso in the Salone dei Corazzieri at the Quirinale in a ceremony conducted by Serena Bortone and broadcast on Raiuno at 19.10. in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini.

Furthermore, Rai has decided to set up a series of initiatives which, starting on Monday, will unfold throughout the year in the schedules of all radio and TV networks. On Raiuno, after the live broadcast from the Quirinale, Dante returns, in fact, in the third evening with the documentary Dante and power, a lesson by Professor Alessandro Barbero in an absolutely exceptional place: the monumental complex of Santa Croce in Florence, next to the basilica that Dante saw born from the first foundations in 1294. Raitre proposes, instead, the replica of the reading by Roberto Benigni de The Fifth of Hell starting at 9.20 pm on Thursday 25 March, a way to rediscover the passion between Paolo and Francesca and that of love «ch’a no amato amar perdona». Accompanying the reading of Benigni will be an introduction by Corrado Augias and, at the end of the event, a discussion with Aldo Cazzullo and Giorgio Zanchini entitled Dante’s Italy, centered on Alighieri’s linguistic revolution that managed to unify a divided and fragmentary country.
The entire programming of Rai Storia is also dedicated to Dante. From 10 to 13, Dante relives thanks to the great Vittorio Gassman in the series Gassman meets Dante, initiative that, immediately after, will give way to Dantis reading by Carmelo Bene, the recording of the unforgettable performance that Bene offered on the evening of July 31, 1981, one year after the massacre at the Bologna station. In the afternoon, instead, space for Dante’s story with the Chronicles from the Middle Ages, which recall his participation in the decisive battle of Campaldino in 1289, followed at 15.30 by Dante Alighieri. A distant homeland, which portrays the figure of an exile. At 4.15 pm it is the turn of the Diary of a chronicler by Sergio Zavoli, with the 1965 images of the meeting with Antonio Fusconi, while, immediately after, here is the intervention of Professor Giulio Ferroni who discusses the Poet together with Professor Carlo Ossola and Professor Luca Serianni. In the early evening, here Alighieri Durante, known as Dante. Life and adventures of a man of the Middle Ages, in which Professor Alessandro Barbero tells the life of the poet, and to follow Italy. Journey into beauty with Dante, an ancient and honorable citizen of Florence.
A Past and present, the Rai Cultura program broadcast at 1.15 pm and in rerun at 8.30 pm on Rai Storia, Paolo Mieli hosts Professor Giuseppe Ledda, professor of Italian literature at the University of Bologna, member of the scientific committee of the Società Dantesca Italiana and of the Dante Group of ‘Association of Italianists, and author of numerous essays on Dante and on Comedy. The story of the episode, marked by the reading of passages from Dante’s works, will follow the path of the creation of Comedy, linking the composition of the songs to the most significant episodes in the poet’s life. On Rai5, on the other hand, at 9.15 pm, Visions analyzes the relevance of Dante’s thought from love to faith, closing with the integral reading of the Divine Comedy made by Lucilla Giagnoni in her Vespers by Dante. The offer of Radio Rai is also rich: among the main events, on Radio1 Giorgio Zanchini hosts Professor Alessandro Barbero at Radio too, at 7:30; on Radio2 Caterpillar, at 18, tells Dante in key I enlighten less e Back2Back; on Radio3 Fahrenheit He “re-reads” it with the contribution of teachers and scholars.
