Dapper Labs: “professional sports leagues are increasingly interested in NFT”

Caty Tedman, Head of Partner Relations at Dapper Labs, believes that sports organizations are increasingly interested in NFT as the sector is growing rapidly.

Speaking at the Yahoo Finance Summit, Caty Tedman said the attitude of professional sports organizations towards NFTs has suddenly changed since early 2021.

“The situation has changed dramatically and I think that sports organizations have some understanding that there is something in this. There is less and less opposition to the idea that NFT is a thing, ”she said.

Dapper Labs pioneered officially licensed sports NFTs when it launched NBA Top Shot in late 2020. Dapper Labs was “fortunate enough to start with the NBA,” according to Tedman, as NBA Deputy Vice President for Global Partnerships and Media Adrienne O’Keeffe was open to learning about NFT.

The firm has since signed agreements with other major sports franchises, including the National Football League (NFL), the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the Spanish football organization La Liga, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

In October, NFT trading volume on the NBA Top Shot platform surged to $ 4.5 million on October 15 following the launch of the Run It Back collection.
