Jim Durkin passed away at the age of 58. guitarist of thrash metal veterans Dark Angel. The news was confirmed by his wife Annie, who called him “my immortal love”.
“It is with a broken and heavy heart that I want to share that the love of my life, my best friend and my husband, Jimmy, passed away on Wednesday morning.”Annie wrote in her post.
“He was not alone, I was with him until the end as were some close friends. We will truly miss him and no one can ever replace the love I have for him. Rest in Peace. Always yours, always mine, always ours… Immortal my love. I will see you again”.
Dark Angel also paid their respects to Durkin, writing on social media that “We in the Dark Angel family are deeply saddened and devastated today by the news of our brother and founder Jimmy Durkin’s passing.
We would like to thank his fans for their continued loyalty and support. We will make a new announcement very soon. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy as we mourn the loss of this great man.”
Durkin was a founding member of Dark Angel (then Shellshock) in 1981. The band became famous under its current name in 1983.
Along with Metallica and Slayer, they became the main representatives of thrash metal from California in the decades that followed.
Durkin played with Dark Angel until his death, with the band disbanding in 1992 before reuniting between 2002 and 2005. They reunited once more in 2013 to date.
The band’s most popular album was 1986’s ‘Darkness Descends.’
