Mercado Livre reported this Monday (7th) that the data of about 300,000 of its users had been accessed, after detecting that part of its source code was subject to unauthorized access.
The company said in a statement that it found no evidence that its “infrastructure systems have been compromised or that user passwords, account balances, investments, financial or payment card information have been obtained.”
“We recently detected that part of MercadoLivre Inc. has been subject to unauthorized access. We have activated our security protocols and are conducting a full review. While data from approximately 300,000 users (out of nearly 140 million unique active users) has been accessed, so far – and based on our initial analysis – we have not found any evidence that our infrastructure systems have been compromised or have been obtained. user passwords, account balances, investments, financial or payment card information. We are taking strict measures to prevent further incidents,” the company said in a statement.
With around 140 million unique users, Mercado Livre is the largest e-commerce portal in Latin America, in addition to Itaú Unibanco and Nubank, which have had problems with technology in recent weeks.
