Music like moment of leisure and entertainment, but also a tool for dialogue and awareness among young people. A musical event made by young people for young people, a meeting moment dedicated to their world and their thoughts. Inside a historic Milanese theatre, third sector bodies and institutions shine a light on the mental and psychological distress that many, too many, teenagers experience every day.
This is the premise with which the Aiutiamoli Odv Association and the Aiutiamoli Onlus Foundation, with the special creative support of IED – Istituto Europeo di Design and in network with the Municipality of Milan and various stakeholders from the world of health, announce the musical event for charitable purposes Dave for youngscheduled at the Teatro Dal Verme on Saturday 30 September at 8.30 pmwith the management of Vanessa Gray and Alessandro Sansone (tickets on sale on Ticket One).
Mental distress among young people
In the last two years, more than in the past – also following the Covid pandemic – an increasingly wider spotlight has been turned on on adolescent suffering, a phenomenon that already exists and has been underestimated for too long. Already in 2015 the WHO report identified the Suicide and self-harm are the third leading cause of mortality among adolescents in the worldpreceded only by road accidents and respiratory tract infections.
The data just released by the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome (September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day) they talk, only in the last year, about 387 cases of emergency access to the emergency room for attempted suicide and suicidal ideation among young and very young people (average age 15 years, 90% girls), underlining the exponential increase, for years, in cases of depression and anxiety disorders that lead to acts of self-harm. THE hospitalizations In the protected department of Neuropsychiatrywhere the most complex cases are managed, there were 544 (+10%).
UNICEF confirmed the picture at a global level already at the beginning of the year: in Western Europe suicide is the second cause of death among very young people, with 4 cases per 100,000. Between the ages of 10 and 19, over 1 in 7 children live with a diagnosed mental disorder, which in 40% of cases corresponds to anxiety and depression: 1 in 3 adolescents asks greater listening and psychological support networks.
The latest data released by Telefono Amico Italia on requests for help to manage suicidal thoughts show the prevalence of reports from young people between 19 and 35 years old, with an increase in contacts from under 19s via WhatsApp and email. The ASST Santi Paolo e Carlo of Milan then reports a lowering the age of onset of eating disorders, between 16 and 24 years. In the Dossier of the Lombardy Region on the subject, the drug alarm emerges: 7 out of 10 young people use them, an addiction that is closely related to mental health problems.

Who was Dave
Davide, Dave to his friends, was a sweet and generous boy who loved music very much and in particular loved playing his electric guitar. A natural talent that allowed him to also interpret iconic pieces by Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones. He loved spending time with his family and had a special bond with his brother. At a certain point he encounters difficulties and falls into the tunnel of addictions. He is unable to ask for help and makes an extreme, tragic gesture. By will of his father, from his passion and his sad story, the event was born Dave for young: in the interpretation of the IED students (authors of the creativity and image of the event), Dave becomes an acronym for Discomfort, Listening, Life, Balanceto establish the pillars of what is the desirable path in dealing with youth difficulties.
The promoter of the initiative is the voluntary association Let’s help thempresent in Milan since 1989, from which Fondazione Aiutiamoli Onlus was born in 2008. His commitment continues and grows even in the face of the spread of discomfort, in the most convinced desire that stories like Dave’s are unacceptable.
