David Beckham opened a case against the actor Mark Wahlberg after an agreement that resulted in losses of, according to him, approximately R$52 million. The Englishman's complaint is of “fraudulent conduct” for the shares purchased from the F45 gym chain.
Former Manchester United and Real Madrid football player demands compensation of around R$98 million according to information from the British newspaper DailyMail.
Beckham and Wahlberg became closer in 2007, when the athlete and his wife, Victoria Beckham, moved to the same neighborhood as the actor in Los Angeles, United States. With friendship, the former football player was invited to promote the F45 brand on social media in exchange for shares .
Soon after, the company bonds — transferred late — depreciated , causing losses to the star. Posts made by Beckham were deleted from social media.
So, the former player took legal action against Mark Wahlberg Investment Group [MWIG], and F45 founders Adam Gilchrist and Rob Deutsch. According to the British newspaper TheMirrorthe actor also made deals with golf star Greg Norman, who is expected to file lawsuits against the companies.
The newspaper The Sun reports that Wahlberg and his co-defendants are trying to dismiss allegations of “fraudulent conduct” as unfounded and without merit. The actor became a minority shareholder in F45 in 2019, after purchasing a stake in the company through his investment group.
