David di Donatello 2021: the nominations, between “Favolacce” and “Tolo Tolo”

Of the nominations of the sixty-sixth edition of David by Donatello which will be broadcast onMay 11th on Raiuno with the conduct of Carlo Conti two things strike: the triumph of two titles, I wanted to hide by Giorgio Rights e Bad Tales of the D’Innocenzo brothers, who passed and successfully awarded at the Berlinale a year ago and the fact that, after a long time, two women compete for best director, a title that has never been won by a woman in the history of the award so far. They are Emma Dante and Susanna Nicchiarelli, candidate respectively for The Macaluso sisters e Miss Marx, both premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

Leading the nominations (he won 15) is, however, I wanted to hide, the film about the life of the painter Antonio Ligabue with a great Elio Germano in the leading role; followed by Hammamet by Gianni Amelio, the film with Pierfrancesco Favino in the role of Bettino Craxi, with 14, and by Bad Tales by Damiano and Fabio D’Innocenzo with 13. Along with very interesting performances such as that of Valerio Mastandrea in Sons, a film that will almost certainly be worth the posthumous David to Mattia Torre for the best original screenplay, and, above all, by Renato Pozzetto in She still talks to me, the latest film by Pupi Avati that saw him try his hand at a dramatic role for the first time, the candidacy of Sophia Loren, snubbed by the Awards Season for Life ahead to himself by Edoardo Ponti, and the nomination by Laura Pausini which, after the Golden Globe and, we hope, also the Oscar, could make a treble to the David di Donatello thanks to the song I do (Seen), written together with Niccolò Agliardi and Diane Warren.
