Twelve days after the attack that killed four children at the Child Education Center (CEI) Cantinho do Bom Pastor, in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, the school returned to receive students this Monday (17).
On CEI’s social networks, it is possible to see children being welcomed by adults dressed as children’s characters.
The school’s legal adviser, Patrícia Kasburg, told the CNN that “Today is the day of resignification, a day of blessings, because, through human mobilization, we can welcome the children from the corner”.
The attack
On April 5, a 25-year-old man invaded CEI Cantinho do Bom Pastor, killing four children and injuring five others.
According to the Fire Department, the fatal victims were three boys and a girl, aged 5 to 7 years old. The injured were taken to hospitals in the region and treated in emergency units.
After the attack, the criminal drove on a motorcycle to the 10th Police Battalion in Blumenau, surrendered and was sent to the Civil Police.
The Military Police of Santa Catarina (PMSC) reported that the man would have jumped the wall of the nursery, located on Rua dos Caçadores, in the Vila Velha neighborhood, in Blumenau. Around 40 children were reportedly using the playground at the time of the invasion.
The assailant attacked the children using an axe, and killed four of them, in addition to injuring five. At first, the attacks happened randomly.
Teachers reported that they tried to lock the babies inside a classroom to prevent them from being attacked. Upon seeing teachers defending and calling children into the building, the criminal jumped the wall again and left the place.
