Roskomnadzor’s reaction to the Google lawsuit, which began in May, was not long in coming. The domestic regulator warned Google that it could slow down access to the services of the Internet giant in Russia, as happened earlier with Twitter.
According to TASS, Roskomnadzor may slow down access to Google services due to insufficient filtering of content prohibited in Russia. The regulator claims that now Google does not remove up to 30% of links to illegal materials from search results. For example, about 5 thousand prohibited materials were not removed on YouTube, of which 3.5 thousand are calls to extremism.
Roskomnadzor said that Google is the leader in the amount of illegal content that has not been deleted, causing direct harm to Russian users. The regulator gave the search giant 24 hours to remove prohibited materials, otherwise the speed of access to Google services will be limited.
Recall that in the spring, for the same reason, Roskomnadzor slowed down the speed of the popular microblogging service Twitter, giving it a month to remove prohibited content. But in mid-May, the department lifted the restriction for wired Internet users, keeping the slowdown of only mobile traffic.
