“Days of guaranteed US support to Europe is over,” warns Zelensky

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the US support days of the United States ended up asking the continent to come together to create an army and foreign policy united.

Zelensky spoke this week that a call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American Donald Trump raised fears in Kiev that he was being excluded from negotiations, with the White House also minimizing Ukraine’s perspectives to join NATO.

“A few days ago, President Trump told me about his conversation with Putin. He did not mention when America needs Europe at that table. That says a lot, ”said the Ukrainian in a speech at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday (15).

He continued to say, “the old days ended – when America supported Europe just because it always supported,” he added.

Talking to Christiane Amanpour da CNN On the stage of the security conference, Zelensky admitted that “was not happy” that Trump’s first call was with Putin.

The Ukrainian leader warned that it would be “more dangerous”, however, if Trump met with the Russian President before him.

Trump did not commit to meet Zelensky first, the Ukrainian leader told CNN .

However, the US President understood the need to “meet urgently” to discuss “concrete plans” to end the war, he added.

Zelensky’s appeal

He spoke a day after US Vice President Jd Vance removed the US European allies at the Security Conference in a discourse that barely touched the Ukraine issue and a possible deal with Russia.

Zelensky has asked for a united European army as he acknowledged that the United States may not continue to provide military support as before.

“Let’s be honest – now we can’t rule out the possibility that the US will say no to Europe on issues that threaten them. Many leaders have talked about Europe that needs their own army – an army of Europe, ”he added.

His Ukrainian, “Yesterday, here in Munich, the US Vice President made it clear-decades of the old relationship between Europe and the US are ending. From now on, things will be different, and Europe needs to adjust to it, ”said Zelensky.

Later in his speech, the Ukrainian President accused Putin of trying to “divide the world” through individual conversations with Trump.

“Putin will try to get the US president in Red Square on May 9 this year, not as a respected leader, but as a support in his own performance, we don’t need it,” he said.

In a speech that caused laughter in the crowd, Zelensky also admitted to telling Trump that Putin is afraid of him.

“I told Trump that Putin is afraid of him and he heard me. And now Putin knows, ”explained ironically.

The Ukrainian President added that the president of Russia seems to be the biggest influence on NATO and reiterated that peace negotiations to end the conflict could not continue without Kiev’s involvement.

“At this time, NATO’s most influential member seems to be Putin – because his whims have the power to block NATO decisions,” said Zelensky. “Ukraine will never accept agreements made on our backs without our involvement. And the same rule must apply to all of Europe, ”he added.

For him no decision on Ukraine should be made without Ukraine.

‘No decision on Europe without Europe. Europe must have a table seat when decisions on the continent are being made, ”continued Zelensky.

After the Ukrainian speech, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that Europe “urgently needs an action plan” over Ukraine, or risks other global actors decide their future.

“This plan must be prepared now. There is no time to waste, ”said Tusk in a post at X.
