DDR3 memory will rise in price by 40-50% this year

Citing industry sources, DigiTimes reported that prices for DDR3 memory modules will rise 40-50% this year. DDR4 memory has already become the mainstream market, available since 2014, but DDR3 is also widely used. It can be found in many systems, including IoT devices, servers, and long-term PCs.

DDR3 memory will rise in price by 40-50% this year

DDR3 memory is produced by SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron, but they have already switched their capacities to the predominant release of DDR4 memory, which has led to an increase in the DDR3 deficit. This, according to industry representatives, is associated with the increase in prices. SK Hynix discontinued production of 2 Gb components, leaving only 4 Gb components in production. Samsung has cut production from 60,000 DDR3 platters per month to 20,000. These steps have already resulted in a 30% increase in component prices. Meanwhile, demand remains high. The deepening scarcity will inevitably drive up prices. They are expected to grow by 40-50% within a year.
