Dead Bruno Astorre, senator of the Democratic Party. Among the hypotheses, that of suicide

This morning, around 12.50, Pd senator Bruno Astorre died, after being fell from a fourth floor window of Palazzo Cenci, in Rome, where the offices of the Senate are located. Despite timely help, there was nothing more that could be done for Bruno Astorre.

Among the hypotheses of the police there is that of a voluntary gesture. The door of the building was immediately closed: the scientific team is carrying out an inspection, in which the prosecutor on duty also participates. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened un file for instigation to suicide, as a duty. The causes of death are being investigated by the competent local police office.

Bruno Astorre, born in Rome on 11 March 1963, would have completed 60 years in a few days. Senator since 2013, he was regional secretary of the Democratic Party in Lazio since December 2018, and was married to Francesca Sbardellamayor of Frascati.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of Senator Bruno Astorre,” said the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, on behalf of the party. «The whole democratic community gathers around his wife and to his family, friends and all his colleagues.’

A message of condolence also arrives from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni: «A passionate and loyal adversary, a decent person. On behalf of myself and of the Government, I embrace the pain of his wife, family and political community”.

“I mourn with sincere and deep emotion the dramatic death of my friend and senator Bruno Astorre” said Matteo Piantedosi, the Minister of the Interior. «A solid point of reference for the Lazio community, a Man of the Institutions of which, during my office as Prefect of Rome, I was able to appreciate, on the occasion of numerous fruitful collaborations, the great human qualities, values, competence and sensitivity. My condolences go to his wife Francesca and to her whole family ».
