Norwegian Ski Olympian Audun Grønvold died at the age of just 49, after a thunderbolt, as the Norwegian Federation of Ski Federation announced on Wednesday. Grønvold had won the bronze medal at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010. “With deep sadness we were notified of Audun Grønvold’s premature death,” the federation said. “The former ski athlete was recently struck by lightning during a holiday trip.” As it became known, Grønvold was immediately taken to the hospital and received medical care, but succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night. “The Norwegian family of ski has lost an important personality, which has greatly contributed to both the Alpine and the Free Ski,” said Federation President Tove Moe Dyrhaug, adding that his death leaves a huge gap.
