Dead fish and birds from an oil spill off the coast of California

US authorities are trying to tackle pollution from oil slick on its shores California, which covers about 34 square kilometers. The environmental effects of pollution have already begun to be felt.

The pollution will have “irreversible consequences for the environment”, said a representative of the local authorities, as a large number of dead fish and birds have been located near the shores.

The worst affected area is Huntington Beach, south of Los Angeles.

Although not yet fully confirmed, it is estimated that the oil spill was caused by a leak in an oil pipeline located 8 km offshore.

Huntington Beach authorities have warned residents not to approach pollution zones, avoid beaches and not swim.

With mobile dams and pumping systems, authorities are trying to prevent oil from reaching the Bolsa Chika Ecological Sanctuary and the Huntington Beach wetlands.
