The deadline for joining Desenrola Fies, a Federal Government program to facilitate the renegotiation of debts from the Student Financing Fund (Fies), ends this Saturday (31).
According to government information, around 350,000 contracts have already been renegotiated. This represents a discount of R$12.8 billion and a reduction in the total debt from R$16.1 billion to R$3.2 billion. Government projections indicate a refund of R$677 million to the public coffers, after the cash payments of those who renegotiated their debts.
The program offers discounts to students registered in the Single Registry. Those with debts on contracts signed up to 2017 and in default by June 30, 2023, can request renegotiation. Fies, managed by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and administered by the National Fund for the Development of Education (FNDE), finances low-income students in higher education courses at private institutions.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) used social media, this Wednesday (29), to talk about the program and draw attention to the deadline for the end of Desenrola Fies.
How to join the renegotiation plan
Those interested in joining the project should contact the Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil customer service channels, which are responsible for renegotiations. The MEC and FNDE provide the Fale Conosco portal and the telephone number 0800 616161 to clarify doubts and obtain more information about Desenrola Fies.

About the conditions
All renegotiation can be done 100% digitally through the app or the program portal, in addition to the service that can be carried out at physical agencies. See the conditions for renegotiating FIES:
- 0 to 90 days late: 12% discount for paying the outstanding balance in full. To join this modality, you must be in good standing on the date of joining;
- More than 90 days late: 12% discount for paying the outstanding balance in full or repaying in up to 150 monthly installments with a 100% reduction in interest and late payment fines;
- More than 360 days late (debtor registered with CadÚnico on June 30, 2023 or beneficiary of Emergency Aid 2021): discount of 99% of the consolidated amount of the debt in the event of payment in cash, or in 15 installments for contracts with the last installment of the contract more than five years late. Discount of 92% of the consolidated amount of the debt in the event of payment in cash, or in 15 installments for contracts with the last installment generated less than five years ago;
- More than 360 days late (which does not meet the conditions above): up to 77% discount on the total amount of the debt, for payment in full or in 15 installments.
