Deadline to obtain an American tourist visa in São Paulo is 365 days

Brazilians who wish to travel to the United States have to face a long wait for a visa in the country. The time to obtain a tourist visa at the American consulate in São Paulo is 365 days.

The deadline is even longer in Rio de Janeiro and takes, on average, 454 days. The smallest occurs in Recife, where the wait is 307 days.

Journalist Fatima Fernandes, for example, had to wait a year between scheduling and delivering the documentation to the São Paulo consulate. The forecast is for a few more months before the tourist visa is renewed.

The American consulate in São Paulo said it is working to increase the availability of visa appointments. The note asks that “people plan their trips in advance.

The waiting time for an appointment varies constantly, as it depends on some variables, such as the demand and service capacity of each consular post, the type of visa requested and the availability of appointment times that are created regularly”.
