Deadline to reserve Eletrobras shares with FGTS ends this Wednesday (8)

Workers interested in reserving Eletrobras shares using the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) have until this Wednesday (8) to carry out the operation.

The minimum amount for the application is R$ 200 per worker, and it is possible to use up to 50% of the available balance in the FGTS account.

The reserve period to buy Eletrobras shares with the FGTS started last Friday (3). According to Caixa, the expectation is that up to R$ 6 billion will be handled by the FMP-FGTS (Mutual Privatization Funds).

The reserve of shares takes place as part of the capitalization process of the state-owned company, in an operation that should move around R$ 35 billion.

How to make the reservation?

The entire procedure can be done digitally.

First, the worker must download the FGTS application on their cell phone. Then, inside the program, select the option “Authorization of FGTS Information Consultation” and choose the “Mutual Privatization Funds” tab.

The third step is to define the financial institution. It is important that the worker, at first, choose the bank that he already has an account and already knows.

Once selected, enter the bank or brokerage application and click on Eletrobras Privatization Fund. Then, the bank will inform the amount in the FGTS account and the user will be able to inform the amount he wants to invest.

What is the risk?

Many workers question themselves about the risks of investing the fund’s money in the capitalization of Eletrobras.

The risks are like any other type of equity investment, that is, the company’s shares can go up, but they can also go down.

Can I sell the shares?

The investment with the FGTS will have a minimum period of 12 months. That way, whoever buys the stock can sell it after one year.

How much can I invest?

The minimum amount for the application is R$ 200 per worker, and it is possible to use up to 50% of the available balance in the FGTS account.

How to choose the bank or broker?

At the time of choosing, the investor can choose the institution where he is already a client and has knowledge of the services provided.

However, it is also interesting to observe and compare the operating rates of each of them. Some funds have fees close to 1% per year, while others have no fees.

Eletrobras

Eletrobras has close to 51 gigawatts (GW) in installed generation capacity — equivalent to 29% of Brazil’s generating complex — and more than 70,000 km of transmission lines, or 43.1% of the national grid.

One of the purposes of capitalization is to enable the company to increase its level of investments and become more competitive in the market.
