At least two workers lost their lives and seven others were trapped when it exploded at a coal mine in Sochi, central Colombia, the National Mining and Mining Administration (ANM) said.
Three injured were rescued after the accident at the coal mine where police, the Red Cross and engineers are involved in the investigation.
The explosion may have been due to a concentration of methane and carbon dust in the Diamante 5 mine, the Service clarified in a press release it published.
The Andean state recorded 171 deaths due to accidents in mines and mines in 2020, compared to 82 last year. Mining oil, coal and metals is the source of most of Colombia’s export earnings.
Colombia, the world’s fifth-largest coal exporter, mined 48.4 million tonnes last year, up from 82.4 million in 2019, according to ANM.
