The Chamber of Deputies summoned the president of Gol Linhas Aéreas, Celso Ferrer, to attend a public hearing so that he can clarify the case of the dog Joca, the Golden Retriever delivered dead to his owner this Monday (22) after a mistake was made for the company.
Protocoled this Wednesday (24), the invitation was made by deputy Paulo Alexandre Barbosa (PSDB), 1st vice-president of the Chamber's Road and Transport Committee, who, in addition to wanting to discuss what happened with the dog, intends to establish new rules for the transport of animals nationwide.
In addition to Ferrer, the Chamber also wants to hear from Tiago Sousa Pereira, president of the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). According to the deputy, the event should also include the participation of defenders of the animal cause and presidents of other airlines.
“We have seen recurring episodes of lack of attention and care when transporting animals throughout Brazil. It's a shame. Airlines need to be held accountable.”
Joca case
A 5-year-old Golden Retriever dog named Joca was handed over dead to his owner, this Monday (22), by employees of the airline Gol, which was transporting the animal.
According to the company, Joca should have gone from Guarulhos (SP) to Sinop airport (MT), where he would meet his guardian. However, due to what the company called an “operational failure”, the animal was transported to Fortaleza (CE), traveling a 7-hour journey.

João Fantazzini, Joca's tutor, held Gol directly responsible for what happened.
The company announced on Tuesday night (23) a 30-day suspension, starting from this Wednesday (24), the service of transporting dogs and cats in the hold of aircraft. According to Gol, the intention is to conclude investigations into the case.
