GOL Linhas Aéreas was notified by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security to provide explanations about the Joca case, the Golden Retriever delivered dead to its owner after an error by the company.
The company has two days to demonstrate actions to prevent this type of occurrence, explaining the methodology and animal transport policy adopted by the company. The letter signed by the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) also requests information about reparation procedures for Joca's family.
The case is also being investigated by the Ministry of Ports and Airports and any reinforcement of standards for air transport of animals in the country must come from the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac).
The golden retriever Joca was five years old and was delivered dead to his owner, on Monday (22), by employees of the airline GoOL, which transported the animal.
He spent more hours in the transport box than initially expected due to an operational error by the company, which sent the dog to Fortaleza Airport, in Ceará, and not to Sinop Airport, in Mato Grosso, where it would be the correct destination.
In a statement, GOL informed that it deeply regrets what happened and that it is offering all necessary support to the animal's owner. “The investigation of the details of what happened is being carried out with full priority by our team”, added the company.
