Tropical Storm Beryl — previously a Category 1 hurricane — has killed at least four people in Texas, authorities said Monday (8).
Two people have died in Houston, according to John Whitmire, the city’s mayor.
“We lost one person in a fire in southeast Houston due to lightning, we believe it is related to the storm,” Whitmire said at a news conference.
The mayor added that another person who worked for the Houston Police Department also died.
The other two people who died were in Harris County, according to local officials.
One was a 74-year-old woman, Harris County Precinct 4 police said in a Facebook post. She died when a tree fell on her home, authorities said.
The other fatality attributed to the storm at the site also occurred when a tree fell on the home of a 53-year-old man, according to the sheriff’s office.
