Death toll in accident between bus and minibus in SP rises to six

The death toll in an accident involving a bus and a minibus in the interior of São Paulo has risen to six. Another four people were injured after the head-on collision in Ipeúna (SP), in the Campinas region.

According to the State Transport Agency (ARTESP), the accident occurred around 5:30 am this Monday (8), at kilometer 93 of the Irineu Penteado Highway (SP-191).

The minibus left the city of São Pedro (SP) and was heading to Rio Claro (SP). The bus was heading from Ipeúna (SP) to Charqueada (SP) and had a valid inspection by ARTESP.

According to the latest update from the Public Security Department, four deaths were confirmed at the scene. Another four were taken to health units in the region, with two of them not surviving their injuries.

Santa Casa de Rio Claro received three victims of the accident. Two died at the unit and another is at the Nossa Senhora de Lourdes Emergency and Urgency Unit under medical care.

The Charqueada Emergency Room stated that it received a patient and her health condition is stable.

The Ipeúna Municipal Hospital received two patients, a 58-year-old mother and her 21-year-old son, who are in stable condition. The woman was transferred to the Rio Claro hospital and only received one bill.

According to the Military Police, the incident caused the road to be completely closed. According to the latest update from the Transportation Agency, the westbound shoulder remains closed.
