Death toll in Gaza Strip exceeds 4,000, says Ministry of Health

The number of deaths in the Gaza Strip caused by the war between Israel and the radical Islamic group Hamas has risen to 4,127, according to a spokesman for the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Among them, 1,661 were children.

Another 13,162 people were injured, spokesman Ashraf Al-Qidra said.

In the West Bank, the number of deaths since the start of the war rose to 81, according to the ministry.

There, tensions continue to rise as Palestinians die in clashes with both Israeli forces and settlers.

Settlers, under international law, are Israeli civilians who live in illegal settlements in the West Bank and have been accused of carrying out acts of violence — physical aggression, property damage and harassment — against Palestinians.

Lack of fuel in Gaza hospitals

Shortages of fuel, water and electricity are leaving hospitals in Gaza non-functional and, in some cases, “out of service”, a senior aid agency official said.

Fuel shortages are causing Gaza residents to resort to using contaminated water, as most of the water is not drinkable because it needs treatment units for processing, which requires fuel, said Hiba Tibi, director of CARE in the West Bank and Gaza, to CNN .

“We need fuel to transport clean water to the population. This is all getting very complicated,” said Tibi.

“The most important thing for us is to ensure that we have access to fuel, for hospitals and water treatment facilities in Gaza.”

“If we have water, electricity and fuel to generate these two main needs, the situation may seem better… to allow us to save lives”, added Tibi.
