Death toll rises to 24 after building collapse in George Town, South Africa

The death toll from the collapse of an apartment building that occurred a week ago in South Africa rose today, with 24 people dead and 28 missing, authorities said. After news on Saturday that a survivor had been pulled up in what was described as a “miracle”, the chances of survival for those still missing dwindled as rescuers said they would search “every gap” in the wreckage. Four more dead people were found during the night and in the early morning hours today, as announced by the municipal authorities of the city of George.
