Death toll rises to 36 in Russian attack on Mykolaiv government building

A total of 36 people were killed in a Russian attack on the office of the regional military governor of the Mykolaiv region in southwest Ukraine on Tuesday (29), regional military governor Vitalii Kim said on Saturday (2) on Telegram.

Kim said his secretary was among the dead. The Russian attack demolished half the building, according to the governor.

Russian forces attack southern Ukrainian ports including Kherson, Odesa, Mykolaiv and Mariupolwhile trying to isolate Ukraine from Black Sea and establish a land corridor from Russia to Crimea, the peninsula that Russia annexed in 2014.

“They [os russos] they hit the regional administration building, they demolished half the building, they hit my office. Most people were miraculously saved,” Kim said in a statement on Telegram.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said the attack hit the nine-story building on Tuesday morning at around 8:45 am local time.

Russia calls its actions in Ukraine a “special military operation” to disarm and “denazify” your neighbor. The Russians deny targeting civilians. Ukraine and the West say Russian President Vladimir Putin has launched an unprovoked war.
