With this update, there are already nine deaths in 62 accidents this year. Compared to the same period last year, the number of accidents on this highway had a 24%growth. In 2024 there were 50 accidents. Also considering the months between January and May, the number of accident deaths on BR-293 went from eight last year to nine this year.
In all, the federal highways of Rio Grande do Sul record 77 deaths and more in 3,304 accidents in 2025, already considering this occurrence with the family of Mano Menezes. This represents a 49% growth in accident records compared to 2024. The number of deaths fell from 139 last year to 77 this year.

Dead children
Two family members of Grêmio coach Mano Menezes died in an accident late Friday afternoon (16), in the city of Santana do Livramento, in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul.
Maria Sophia Dumoncel, 16, and Arthur Dumoncel, 9, died at the scene. They are children of Álvaro Dumoncel, married to Camila Menezes, daughter of Mano. Two men were hospitalized and are in serious condition. A fifth victim was rescued, but could not resist and died in the hospital.
According to the Federal Highway Police, the victims were in a vehicle of the Honda CR-V model that left the track on BR-293, at km 303. The accident happened around 3:20 pm, according to the PRF. The car, with a license plate from the city of Dom Pedrito, overturned and ended up in a forest area.
The coach was in São Paulo this Saturday (17), where Grêmio plays against São Paulo for the Brazilian Championship. In a note released on social networks, Grêmio sympathized with Mano and his family.
The note also reports that the coach was dismissed from the concentration for the game and went back to Rio Grande do Sul. In addition to providing condolences to the coach and his family, the Grêmio note also reported that assistant coach Sidnei Lobo will lead the team against Sao Paulo and that assistant James Freitas will compose the commission.
