The current Minister of Economy of Argentina and government candidate for the country’s Presidency, Sergio Massa stated this Sunday (12), during the last debate before the second round, that it is necessary to have “capacity, mental balance and contact with reality to be able to take Argentina ahead” and challenged Javier Milei to both take a psychotechnical exam.
“Do you happen to have any?” asked Milei about the list of skills enumerated by Massa for a candidate to become president. “Let’s both do psychotechnics,” the minister replied to Milei.
In a post published this week on Instagram, Milei said it was fake news that she has psychological problems or that she talks to her dead dog. The discussion between Massa and Milei about the psychotechnical exam came after a strong verbal confrontation in the debate on corruption.
When addressing free education and healthcare – Milei proposes replacing the financing of institutions with vouchers so that the population can choose whether to attend public or private places – the libertarian economist told Massa: “These altruistic solutions are the justification that delinquent politicians like you use to put your hands in the pockets of Argentines and distribute [o dinheiro] to whomever you want.”
The minister replied: “Javier, if you have any proof of a crime that I have committed, I will wait for you in the courts on Monday. If not, recant. Do you have any crimes to report?” Milei then responded that Massa “is part of the most thieving government in history”, which has “a lot of processes”.
Massa argued that if Milei knew about crimes and did not report them “he would be failing to fulfill his duties as a public servant”, and ended up hearing from Milei: “Maybe you are looking the other way with the political force to which you belong”.
The vice-president of the current government, Cristina Kirchner, was sentenced to six years in prison for fraudulent administration to the detriment of public administration. She, who is also president of the Senate, has a privileged jurisdiction and cannot be arrested until the end of her term.
