December electricity bills are coming – Today the announcements of the new support measures

LAST UPDATE: 08.30

By Harry Floudopoulos

New increases are expected to be seen in December electricity bills, households and businesses. This is because, according to official data published by the Energy Exchange, the wholesale price of electricity last month moved up, reaching record levels, at 235.38 euros / MWh. This means that the wholesale clauses included in the retail tariffs will be reactivated, causing new increases in the final cost of electricity for households and businesses.

It is recalled that in November the average wholesale price of electricity was about 7 euros / MWh down, to 228.87 euros / MWh. Thus, the retail price of electricity from 28 – 29 cents / KWh in November, rises in December to 30 – 31 cents / KWh.

Practically a household with a 4-month consumption of 1.5 MWh or otherwise a monthly consumption of 375 KWh will be required to pay only for the competitive charge (ie without regulated charges and bill fees) 112.5 euros without calculating the monthly subsidy of 45 euros . In November, the corresponding amount was 105 euros.

As for January, during the first week of the month, the average wholesale price fell to 175 euros / MWh, which translates into a retail price of 20 – 23 cents / KWh. It should be noted, however, that in recent days there has been an upward trend in the course of wholesale prices, which means that it is unlikely that the average price of the month will move to these levels.

In this climate of uncertainty and variability, today is expected to make announcements by the competent Minister of Environment and Energy K. Skrekas about the new measures to support households and businesses. According to information based on the new model, a subsidy will be provided as a percentage of the burden incurred by the consumer. At the same time, not all meters will be subsidized, except those related to the main residence. In any case, the subsidy of the first 300 kilowatt hours each month remains, while it is not clear whether there will be any income limit.
