Virtual reality platform Decentraland will host a four-day event featuring renowned designers and haute couture houses to showcase their avatar clothing collections.
From March 24 to 27, 2022, Vogue Arabia, Elie Saab, Guo Pei, Etro, Jacob & Co, Dolce & Gabbana, Selfridges, Tommy Hilfiger, Fewocious, Dundas, Cavalli, Paco Rabanne, Hogan, Franck Muller, Garrett Leight , Cavalli and The Fabricant will hold their shows in a specially created Decentraland location called the High Fashion District.
As conceived by the organizers, the event will begin with the opening of a virtual store of the London retailer Selfridges, where on a futuristic podium, against the backdrop of the works of the founder of the op art direction, Victor Vasarely, there will be a show of models from Dolce & Gabbana, Dundas, Etro and others.
“Decentraland is at the forefront of rare and sought after digital fashion. Since the launch of Avatars in 2020, sales of Avatar clothing designs have exceeded $1 million,” said Sam Hamilton, Creative Director of the Decentraland Foundation.
Hamilton believes that the incentive for luxury fashion brands to participate in such events could be access to an audience of young consumers who are more interested in acquiring digital assets than in physical goods.
In early February, the fashion house Gucci bought a plot of land in one of the largest metaverses, The Sandbox, where it is planned to create a virtual fashion world focused on Generation Z.
