Decreased advertising impacts vaccine adherence, assesses immunologist

Jorge Kalil, immunologist and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (USP) told CNN that the decrease in government advertising impacts vaccine adherence.

“The decrease in vaccination in Brazil has been decreasing since 2009, because there was a decrease in investments in vaccine advertising”, says Kalil.

The professor states that there is a need to expand the information to the public.

“The government lacks intensity to inform the population of the need for a vaccine.”

The immunologist points out that there is a lack of a “recovery of consciousness” to expand childhood vaccination, both against Covid and other diseases.

Today Brazil has just over 50% of children aged five to 11 vaccinated against Covid-19.

“People need to understand the importance of vaccines, it’s free, it protects,” he said.
