Decree approves group for hydroelectric reservoir recovery plan

The President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, approved a resolution by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) that establishes a working group that will prepare a plan for the recovery of the country’s hydroelectric plant reservoirs. The approval is in a decree published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) this Tuesday (26).

The plan is for the recovery of reservoirs over up to 10 years and follows Law n. 14,182, of July 12, 2021, which determined that the Executive draw up a ten-year program in this regard.

The group will be coordinated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy and will also have representatives from the Ministry of Regional Development, Energy Research Company (EPE) and National Electric System Operator (ONS).

In a note, the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic recalled the water scarcity recorded in the country between 2020 and 2021. to enable the recovery of the country’s hydroelectric power plant reservoirs, in order to guarantee the proper security in serving Brazilian electricity consumers and other water users,” he said.
