Dedicated to Fofi Gennimata the 30th issue of the Parliament magazine

“I’m leaving. Let ‘s see you now…”. With the semantic and symbolic adoption of verses by the great poets A. Kalvos, G. Heimonas and Od. Elytis, the former Minister of PASOK governments, Costas Laliotis, said goodbye to Fofi Gennimata, with an article in the electronic magazine of the Parliament “On the Peristyle” .

The 30th issue of the magazine, which has just been published (https://www.hellenicparliament.gr/userfiles/ebooks/periodiko_t030/index.html) is dedicated to the late chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Movement for Change and includes, among other things, a broad presentation of the day was organized in the Parliament on the management of chronic diseases and the promotion of screening after the COVID-19 pandemic, where the Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis announced a program of preventive examinations for breast cancer, which was named after Fofi Gennimata.

The tribute to Fofi Gennimata includes her stations in politics, the funerals that were delivered at the procession that took place in the Diocese of Athens, as well as a political portrait of her which records the views of the late president of the Movement for Change on a number of issues, such as national issues, progressive governance, the quality of democracy, the role of the younger generation, national issues, women’s equality, motherhood, the family, the fight against disease, etc. There is also a large section with the headlines of the press, as well as the positions and views expressed by her political comrades and journalists.

In his article entitled “”… One, two, three Let’s go… “- The fluttering in the sky”, Mr. Laliotis states that “although several days have passed, I have not reconciled with her loss and her absence. I continue to see her strong, upright and brave, optimistic, courageous and smiling, sensitive, dignified and human, militant, thoughtful and creative in the ramparts of life, politics and Parliament, the Movement for Change, PASOK and the Democratic Progressive Party. ” .

“This metaphysical denial leads me to the refuge of contemplation, silence and memory with vivid images and indelible recordings of her life, journey and action”, writes Mr. Laliotis and adds: “I met Fofi for the first time once, as a primary school student, in 1974 on her birthday, the landmark date of November 17, in Exarchia, in the open and hospitable family home of her unforgettable and late parents, George and Kakia. Given our unbroken friendships and family ties, Fofi has always known and experienced emotionally and politically my love and appreciation, my faith and trust, my unwavering support, my positive criticism and my my absolute support for her Face, for what she could express, represent and symbolize over time “.

He concludes, noting: “In order to overcome, at this stage, the embarrassment of writing, I adopt semantically and symbolically the condensed speech of Andreas Kalvos, George Heimonas and Odysseas Elytis:

– “… The sun was circling her

both with light and with death

incessantly… ”

Andreas Kalvos

– “… Death brings to light

the noble origin of man… ”

George Winter

– “… Everything is lost.

Everyone’s time is coming.

Everything stays.

I am leaving.

You see now… ”

Odysseus Elytis
