On Tuesday (21), in an interview with CBN radio, Ciro said that the area where the deaths of Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips took place has become a territory administered by a “crime holding”. Subsequently, the pedestrian cited an alleged protection of the Brazilian authorities against drug trafficking, “including the Armed Forces”.

“This holding was established there, which is drug trafficking clearly protected by Brazilian authorities, clearly protected by authorities, including the Armed Forces. would not happen [o crime contra Bruno e Dom] if this were not true”, said Ciro, at the time

The note asks that “the alleged commission of the crimes of ‘Publicly inciting animosity between the Armed Forces, or against constitutional powers, civil institutions or society’ be investigated (Article 286, sole paragraph, of the Penal Code); and ‘Propagating facts, which you know are untrue, capable of offending the dignity or undermining the credit of the Armed Forces or the trust they deserve from the public’ (Article 219 of the Military Penal Code)”.

The pedestrian states that, “at no time did he say that the Armed Forces, as state institutions, would be involved with this criminal holding company”, adding that the manifestation of Defense and the commanders “explicitly explains the degree of politicization of the current command of the Armed Forces”. ”. Ciro’s answer follows in full below.

Note from the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces

Official Note – Defense Minister and Armed Forces commanders present news of crime against allegedly criminal statements

The Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces vehemently repudiate the irresponsible statements made by Mr. Ciro Ferreira Gomes, who, in an interview with a nationwide radio station broadcast on Tuesday (21.6), accused the Armed Forces of colluding with organized crime in the Amazon. Such frivolous accusations seriously affect the reputation and dignity of these respected Institutions of the Brazilian Nation, whose honor, values and traditions are confused with the very identity of the Brazilian People.

It is not admissible, in a democratic state, for unfounded accusations of crime to be made, without the necessary identification of the author by the accuser and without the due presentation of evidence, even more when directed to perennial institutions of the Brazilian State.

As a result, the Minister of Defense and the Commanders of the Armed Forces presented, this Thursday (23.6), news of a crime to the Attorney General of the Republic against Mr. crimes of “Publicly inciting animosity between the Armed Forces, or against constitutional powers, civil institutions or society” (Article 286, sole paragraph, of the Penal Code); and “Propagating facts, which you know are untrue, capable of offending the dignity or undermining the credit of the Armed Forces or the trust they deserve from the public” (Article 219 of the Military Penal Code).

Finally, the Armed Forces are very proud of acting in the defense and protection of the Amazon and of carrying out, on a regular basis, actions to combat environmental and cross-border crimes, developed in conjunction with other government agencies, as well as in helping the Brazilian population in situations difficulties and in activities for their well-being and national development. Thanks to their conduct, the military has the highest confidence of Brazilians.

Ciro Gomes – Public Note

1. I was surprised by an aggressive and untimely note from the Armed Forces command, which, in addition to decontextualizing what I said in an interview with @CBNoficial, threatens me with criminal news, wrongly based on articles 286 of the Penal Code and 219 of the Penal Code Military.

2. The note, which once again explains the degree of politicization of the current command of the Armed Forces, tries to distort my criticism of the notorious lack of control that prevails in areas of the Amazon, where a “crime holding company” acts with impunity.

3. The tragic deaths of Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips are the last episodes of this dreadful reality.

4. At no time did he say that the Armed Forces, as state institutions, would be involved with this criminal holding company.

5. I affirmed – and I reaffirm – that in face of the resourcefulness with which a type of parallel state acts in the area, it is impossible not to imagine that some members of the security forces may be colluding by intent or omission.

6. By answering the journalist’s specific question, I exercised my right to freedom of expression, without excess or any hate speech. Much less with disrespect to an institution that I cherish and defend.

7. I even stated, in the same interview, that the military are essential elements in a National Development Project, in addition to emphasizing the importance of strengthening the Armed Forces in a possible government that I will preside.

8. Just as I do not confuse the action of the Armed Forces with possible errors of some members, I also do not confuse the essence of the institution with the line imposed by temporary commands that try to submit it to political whims and electoral interests.

9. It does not surprise me that the initiative for this political action against me – and against my pre-candidacy – comes from a Defense Minister who, possibly following orders from his supreme commander, has been notorious for attempts to interfere in the political process.

10. As it did, not long ago, when it unilaterally and authoritatively communicated to the Superior Electoral Court that it will indicate names of military personnel to inspect electronic voting machines.

11. I ask: what constitutional or legal competence gives him authority to appoint names to supervise electronic voting machines? Military appointment for this purpose is typical deviation of function and purpose.

12. In my view, it is a case of administrative improbity for violating the principles of public administration. This, yes, is clearly punishable by law.
