The defense team of Brazilians Kátyna Baía and Jeanne Paolini, who were arrested in Germany after having their bags exchanged for luggage with drugs at Guarulhos airport, informed the CNN which intends to file a lawsuit against the German Public Prosecutor’s Office and against the German State, “in order to repair the moral and material damages caused to Brazilian women unjustly arrested”.
The defense also said that it will file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights about the violation of the right to health of Kátyna Baía, who would have been prevented from taking her medication while she was imprisoned.
They informed that the lawyer Chayane Kuss, constituted to conduct the case in Germany, is studying all the indemnity developments applicable by the German jurisdiction. “Everything in our power to question and demand justice, we will act actively”, they said.
“We need to calculate, in detail, all the property damage they suffered during this period. We also need to quantify the amount to be repaired for moral damage before filing the lawsuit. As it involves a complex case, we will not act immediately”, they explained in a statement.
The couple’s defense also reported that both began therapy this Monday (17) because of what happened. “They are sleeping little, still with many emotional sequelae from the trauma.”
remember the case
In early March, German police seized two suitcases containing 20 kilos of cocaine each, labeled with the names of Jeanne and Katyna, and they were arrested.
The basis for the release were the images showing luggage being exchanged during a stopover at Guarulhos International Airport, in São Paulo. According to the Federal Police, the day before the Brazilian couple boarded, another person from Goiás had her suitcase tag changed to luggage with drugs when traveling to Paris, France, but was not arrested.
Videos obtained by Fantástico, from TV Globo, show how two employees at the airport identify the two suitcases of Kátyna and Jeanne, one pink and one black, separate and discreetly remove the tag from them in a security area with restricted access that is monitored by several cameras.
In another video, two women arrive at the airport with two suitcases of different colors around 8:30 pm. They would be the suitcases that contained the 40 kilos of cocaine, according to the police. The two go to an airline window after a signal from the only employee there, leave their bags and then leave the airport, without boarding for any destination.
The two bags are taken to the same vehicle where Kátyna and Jeanne’s bags are and the exchange is made.
The PF’s Operation Iraúna has already arrested seven people for their involvement in the case.
