Defense of prosecutor who assaulted co-worker alleges psychotic outbreak

The defense of municipal prosecutor Demétrius Oliveira de Macedo alleged a psychotic outbreak for the episode in which the lawyer beat his co-worker, Gabriela Samadello Monteiro de Barros, inside the City Hall of Registro, in the interior of São Paulo, last Monday (20). ).

“It is evident that the events of the last 6/20 took place in a new psychotic episode, probably with persecutory delusion, in the midst of which, deprived of reason, the prosecutor regretfully came to commit acts of bodily harm that deserve the absolute repudiation of society. ”, alleges the note signed by the law firm Marco Antônio Modesto, which represents Macedo.

The statement’s argument is that the prosecutor has suffered from “psychiatric problems” since 2020, having already presented psychotic outbreaks and delusions. According to this information, Macedo resigned from his position that same year and had a “lack of awareness of his actions” confirmed in the resignation exam.

In court proceedings, the prosecutor obtained the restitution of public office the following year.

The defense also presented a psychiatric certificate, dated December 8, 2020, stating that the lawyer had “symptoms suggestive of post-traumatic stress disorder and an acute episode of paranoia”. The crisis would have been treated with medication.

The following day, Macedo’s resignation exam was signed based on the psychiatric report.

In a video circulating on social media, Demétrius Macedo appears throwing punches at 39-year-old Gabriela Barros. The recording also shows that a second employee is pushed against a door while trying to contain the attacker. In the images, it is possible to hear Macedo using profanity against the prosecutor.

THE CNN had access to the entirety of the video, but decided not to show it in full due to the violence of the images.

Last Thursday (23), the Public Ministry of São Paulo (MP-SP) denounced the prosecutor for attempted femicide.

“The attack on the victim’s physical safety and the severity of the injuries, shown in the photos of the victim, primarily affected in the face and head, a vital region, leave no doubt that Demetrius was seeking the victim’s death, which only did not occur due to circumstances beyond his control. their will, that is, the interference of third parties present in the public office, working environment of both”, registers the complaint.

On Thursday, the prosecutor was taken into custody.
