Delivery man suffers insult and is prevented by resident from taking “social elevator” of condominium in RJ

A delivery man was the victim of injury by a resident of a residential building, last Sunday (4), in Jacarepaguá, a municipality in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The resident prevented the 18-year-old from using the condominium's “social” elevator to make a delivery.

The delivery man recorded the action and the video is already circulating on social media. In the images, it is possible to follow the dialogue between the young man and the resident of the building:

Resident: “You’re not going up here!”

Delivery man: “Why don’t I go up? I’m not doing anything wrong to you!”

The delivery man then uses the law and informs the resident that there is no longer a “service” elevator. The woman then says that she will call the building's doorman if he is recording her.

Still during the recording, the delivery man reiterates to the resident: “I just want to make my delivery!” See below.

At all times, the woman remains at the elevator entrance so that the young man does not enter. When he finally manages to enter, the resident presses the buttons on the equipment so the elevator does not leave the floor. The worker then reinforces that he will not leave the elevator, even though she prevents him from continuing his journey.

After a few minutes, more people arrive at the scene to understand the motivation for the argument between the two.

The law cited by the delivery man was sanctioned in July last year, by the mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes, and prohibits the distinction between “social elevator” and “service elevator” in elevators in private buildings.

According to the project, the standard was precisely approved with the aim of curbing any type of discrimination in access to private establishments.

The case was registered as injury due to prejudice at the 32nd Civil Police Station – Taquara. According to the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, the woman will be called to testify.

The authorities continue with investigations to clarify what happened.
