Demand for coworking spaces rises over 90% worldwide, says survey

A survey by the International Workplace Group (IWG), which manages coworking spaces around the world, reveals that there was a 93% increase in the search for collective work places in the first quarter of 2022, compared to the same period last year.

Brazil is among the countries where this phenomenon has been verified, with an increase of 97%.

The demand for meeting rooms in Brazil, for example, registered a 216% growth between January and March this year, also compared to the same period in 2021. The result is above the global average of 166%.

According to the real estate consultancy Newmark, there are more than 1,600 coworking units in the country.

In addition to Brazil, the UK and Spain are among the markets where coworking has developed the fastest. The biggest increase was recorded in the UK, with a 300% increase. Spain took second place, with 123%.

After two years of decline due to the pandemic, the coworking service shows an expansion.

This year, with the resumption, many companies have adopted the hybrid system of work and collective work spaces emerge as an economical option for the company and comfortable for the employee.

According to the survey, the hybrid system can save companies about US$ 11,000 per employee per year.

“There is no longer the need to rent a space, spend money on construction, make all that real estate investment, wait months until you can open it so you can have people in the office. Today, companies want that flexibility that only this new office economy can bring”, says IWG CEO in Brazil, Tiago Alves.

The demand has been noticed beyond the main metropolises in the country. In Brazil, however, the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are still the ones that most concentrate coworking units.

“We are now opening operations in Osasco, in Goiânia as well. We are going to cities in the Triângulo Mineiro. We are now entering more capitals in the Northeast, in addition to the four capitals where we have a presence”, highlights Alves.
