Born and raised in Udine, blonde hair and eyes of ice, Demetra, born in 1995, began as a child to take her first steps in theater and musicals and then landed on television in series such as From father and daughter and at the cinema in films like Youtopia with Matilda De Angelis. When was the spark born?
“When I was very young and, watching Marilyn Monroe movies, I dreamed of becoming like her. So my mother told me to do theater in Udine: I toured many different companies and did many shows and musicals. I fell in love with this job right from the start, there was no story ».
Ever folded on anything?
“No, Plan B never existed for me. I carry on at the same time other things such as writing, painting and music, but they are all linked to plan A ».
Speaking of music, he will soon be out with an album. Has it always been present in your life?
“Since my father made me feel the Beatles in the cradle. Then I studied piano, guitar and singing. I write the lyrics myself ».
What are your lyrics about?
«They collect shocks, emotions that when they catch me I must immediately bring them back somewhere, whether it’s in music or something else. There is a sort of push that takes you wherever you are, on the metro, on the bus ».
Is it true for you that when you are sad, the best things come out?
«If you are in a very sad moment it is difficult to find the strength to create things. I think the best moment is in the middle, between great happiness and great sadness: that’s where you can express everything you’ve heard before. When you are sad you can do something, but you are less connected with what is around you ».
How do you get through those moments when they come?
“Thinking they won’t last forever and doing something I enjoy, watching a movie or reading poetry. I love American authors like Raymond Carver ».
In his latest work, All Freud’s fault, there is a lot of talk about the psychological path and the importance of confronting each other to find a balance. Has it happened to you?
«When I was little I was not able to manage it and I asked for help, but now I think I have reached my balance and can do it alone. I became aware of how to manage my things, even if of course I also have my moments of down. Independence, however, is a beautiful thing ».
Did he fight for it?
“No, because my parents have always been very helpful and very open. Now I’m in Udine, before the emergency I often went back to see them, but in Rome I found my dimension ».
The emergency has led a bit ‘everyone to stop and listen. What period was it for you?
«Complicated, so many possibilities that there could have been are to go back, there is always this fear that lingers even when we think we don’t think about it. People, however, get used to everything: we have learned to have closer contacts with the closest people and, perhaps, also to deepen the knowledge we have wanted to invest in for some time ».
You are very young, do you dream in the drawer?
«Working with Tarantino, with Lynch, with Jarmusch, with the Coen brothers. But I’d also like to do a musical. I’ve always loved the classics like Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In the fifties everyone sang, today it is not done anymore ».
Am I wrong or does it have a very vintage soul?
“A little bit yes, although I also like new and experimental things, like the latest Kaufman film, I’m thinking of ending it here».
His greatest talent?
“Resilience, patience and the desire to learn. Maintaining curiosity always helps ».
