Singer Demi Lovato, 31, said on Tuesday (12) that the problematic relationship she had with her father, Patrick Lovato, hindered her love life.
“I went through a phase of dating older men due to issues with my father, obviously,” said Demi, in an interview with the talk show “The Howard Stern Show.”
Despite the statement, the artist said she had resolved all issues with her father before his death in 2013, due to cancer.
“I can say with confidence that my father’s issues are no longer something that lies within me. I think there are some signs of that. I’m with a partner my own age, essentially,” he said on the show.
Demi is currently in a relationship with musician and composer Jordan Lutes, known by the stage name Jutes. They met in February this year, after a music session.
“I’m in an amazing relationship. My boyfriend is a year older than me, we are growing together and that is very healthy,” she said.
“We started out as friends, so we built that foundation of friendship first. There’s this partnership that’s just magnetic, and the way we laugh together is constant. So I think if you can find someone who makes you feel safe… who you’re so attracted to, who you constantly laugh with, that’s the secret to a really great relationship.”
