the democratic senator Raphael Warnock will win Georgia’s second round, projects the CNN defeating Republican challenger, former football player Herschel Walker and solidifying a majority of Democrats in the Senate.
Warnock’s victory secures the Democrats 51 Senate seats, giving the party a majority that likely won’t have to rely so heavily on Vice President Kamala Harris’s tiebreaking vote and also allows Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to have more control over major committees and some loosening in potentially divisive judicial and administrative confirmation fights.
This election was Warnock’s fourth campaign in two years.
In 2020, he ran against Kelly Loeffler to end the term of the former senator johnny isakson 🇧🇷
That race also went into a runoff which Warnock won in January 2021.
The wins for Warnock and Democratic Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff gave Democrats control of the Senate for the first two years of President Joe Biden’s administration.
This runoff was held after none of the candidates managed to receive more than 50% of the vote during the midterm election held on 8 November.
