Some members of the Democratic Party who watched the debate CNN this Thursday (27) are concerned about President Joe Biden’s performance.
They were alarmed that the president had failed to be more forceful against what they called Donald Trump’s lies and clear enough about his own vision and what he had done for the country.
“Disaster. Trump is looking reasonable, even though he’s lying at 90 km/h. Biden is unintelligible,” one lawmaker told CNN.
Another lawmaker told CNN that Biden’s performance was “improving, but a disaster.”
Democrats are especially concerned that Trump appeared to be more restrained than usual, while Biden did not “fight back” at Trump’s alleged lies.
“I think Joe is doing better than he did in the first 15 minutes, and Trump is just lying during the debate. But I wanted Joe to be much stronger in fighting back,” said a third legislator.
Historical debate
The debate of CNN between Joe Biden and Donald Trump is the first in the 2024 presidential race, reviving the confrontation between the Democrat and the Republican for the White House.
In a historic event, this is the first time a sitting president and a former president have debated in the United States.
The debate takes place in the studios of CNN in Atlanta, in the state of Georgia.
