Democrats will guide bills in Congress against gun violence, says Pelosi

Citing shootings that took place in recent months in the United States, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, said that Democrats will guide projects against gun violence in the country.

“Buffalo. Uvalde. Philadelphia. Chattanooga. Bereaved families across America are calling for action on the guns. This week, House Democrats will once again take the lead, defeat the gun lobby, and pass common sense laws to help #EndGunViolence,” she wrote.

She also asked for the collaboration of fellow deputies of the opposing party, the Republicans. “This has to be bipartisan: we all need to protect our children.”

On Sunday, three people were killed and at least 14 others were injured in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with some victims hit by bullets and others by fleeing vehicles.

Gunmen fired into a crowd on Saturday, killing three people and wounding at least 11 in Philadelphia.

Three days earlier, a shooting took place at a Wisconsin cemetery, leaving two injured.

In May, two cases drew attention in the country. In Buffalo, New York, an 18-year-old white gunman killed at least 10 people at a supermarket in an area predominantly inhabited by black people. The case is investigated as a hate crime act of “extreme racially motivated violence”.

In Uvalde, Texas, a gunman broke into a school and killed two teachers and 19 children, causing commotion in the local community.
